I have just seen the same error with the NVIDIA notebook (although on a
much smaller scale), and removing the DVI switch from the equation
"solved" the problem.
So, the red-dots error has nothing to with the driver; this is just a
signal transmission error.
(One less problem on the software side.)

On a side note, can someone suggest me a DVI switch which works
reliably, and doesn't cause this kind of problem?
(Ideally it should have 4 inputs and 2 outputs, mechanical rotating
switch, but anything else will do, as long as it works.)
