Widescreen Monitor config Problem

This could be completely unrelated, but I notice that I get similar
symptoms if I try and run any of the recent Linux releases. I've
got an Intel graphics chip in the system, and the magic workaround
seems to be to use the "nomodeset" boot option.
(One hopes that this bug has been fixed upstream!)
