trying to build X from git on Debian 6.0.6

Trying to follow the simple instructions at http://who-t.blogspot.com.au/2012/05/testing-x-servers-from-git.html but I get problems within the first three seconds. 

Little things like needing automake, autogen and such I get.  That is okay to deal with. 

However needing "xorg-macros version 1.12 or higher" I do not see what the issue is there because the blog says you get everything you need in one shot. 

But .. you don't. 

So I guess I am asking .. what's the procedure to fire off a build of X ?
