He did not say his employer [not 'employee'], he said some employers.

I would guess that you've just thrown away whatever chance you had of 
getting cooperation from the developers. (Is 'citizen journalist' a way 
of saying 'unaccredited journalist'?)

I'm not a developer, just a lurking long-time user, so not very newsworthy.
