To be fair to other applications it would be wise to specify version the
version number whenever possible (earliest version that supports the
metadata, or most current version that does not).  There is always the
possibility of the web page going out of date so it is best to future
proof it as much as possible.  (Just as journalists should avoid specific
dates and times in their writing, conversely programmers really should
date stamp things whenever possible).

Adobe Illustrator and any other XMP enabled Adobe software should
definately be compatible otherwise we are doing it wrong and must fix it.

Someone should check against the Adobe SDK, or ideally create a
small test suite.

How does Sodipodi fare with our Metadata?  Would having Sodipodi support
use be beneficial enough that we might want to try to convince someone to
port any relevant code from Inkscape?  Adobe provide an SDK, can we
encourage the Inkscape developers to devolve the metadata functionality to
make it easier for other open source projects in general to use it?
