Ah, yes, too many could get to be a problem.

It shouldn't be hard to make it suppress all but the newest N shots,
unless the user clicks a link ("See Older Screenshots" or something).

About how many screenshots do you think it should show at once?

Also, if there are certain screenshots that are not as nice,
we can take them out of the gallery entirely by renaming their
description files to not match /screenshot_\d+_description.txt/

And if there are some that are extra nice that we want to keep
on the first page of the gallery, we can keep them in the first
N by touching their description file to update its modification
timestamp.

But if we don't mess with the description files, it'll just show
the most recent (up to) N images.  (Right now N is infinite (i.e.,
the limit isn't implemented), but that won't be hard to change.)
