You'll want to make an interim solution.

However, I've been trimming back my Inkscape gtkmm commitments this
weekend, with the intent of putting a larger proportion of my time into
dms.

Note that work on interim solutions will not be for waste, as I do look
at the existing tools for inspiration for what the dms has.
