I'm new to DBus . . . what is the "dbind" wrapper you mentioned (i.e.
where can I find more information about it)?

Sure core d-bus plus the (ultra-thin & easy) dbind wrapper.

Not sure; it works well enough with a connection per thread -
GVFS uses
that successfully (eg.).
