I currrently have a patch for gphoto2 that detects USB Mass Storage
cameras in gphoto2. It is not committed as there are some issues, and as
I need to find some real time to hack on that (not having internet
connection and PC at home do not help). It builds the device table from
this XML.
But yes, that is mostly one of the ideas I have in mind.

And it needs to be updated as the Linux kernel source code seems to have
a long list of digital cameras that are USB Mass Storage (because they
are buggy too) with their USB IDs.
