Just a heads up: When running without --daemon=no you now need to ensure
that the directory for the pid file exists otherwise hald will silenty
exit (since the daemon writes and destroys the pid file now). 

Package maintainers might want to tune this with --with-pid-file or
something in the package installation routine that creates the
directory.
