Seems, on the failing openSUSE 11.1 system, HAL properly detects the
device as a scanner:
scsi.target = 6 (0x6) (int)
scsi.type = 'scanner' (string)
...
info.capabilities = {'scsi_generic', 'scanner'} (string list)
So it looks like a failure in the HAL tool which applies the ACLs.
