All,
The minutes of the release wranglers call today:
Attendees:
Paul Anderson
Alan Coopersmith
Egbert Eich
Jim Gettys
Howard Greenwell
Stuart Kreitman
Kevin Martin
Leon Shiman
Minutes:
Egbert asked for Progress on the Trademark issue. No report from Jim - not
spoken with lawyers yet.
Egbert has already mentioned too late to do a name change. SuSe needs a
tree that is as close as possible to the XFree86 tree.
Others can use new names, and we did agree on Friday that these names
should be configurable.
Egbert not sure how many different uses in the binary. Vendor strings, log
files, ??? All need to be checked.
Egbert suggested a separate branch on the release branch for testing
purposes. Fixes in the other release branch would then be brought across to
the Configurable branch. Finally the new branch would be the X.Org release,
while SuSe took the non-configurable branch in the short term.
Egbert will send detail out in an Email.
Stuart asked about how the number of CVS commit messages that would be sent
out. Egbert explained ways that the mails could be distinguished by the
relationship of the branches.
Egbert also asked how we should proceed with the documentation changes.
Confused about which parts can be committed, which parts are still under
discussion. No sure about UTF8 and IPV6 changes. Alan commented that IPV6
are very useful and should be included.
Action: Paul to make a buzilla entry for the text to be committed. Also
requested to add to 213 so it is not missed.
Egbert was informed that the version of Xrender was too old. Egbert to
liaise directly with Keith on what version should be used.
Also completed Freetype on Friday afternoon. People without that support
can now still build the tree. Ebgert needs to make a commit to imake.
Egbert needs to check out the tree.
Jim now has two builds - Debian and RedHat - being built continuously by
tinderbox. Jim will also try to get Mandrake running today, and is looking
to get more sorted out.
Hopefullly, tinderbox will enable quicker diagnosis of which platforms are
failing to build, and what is going wrong.
Egbert asked if Red Hat had any specific bug fixes that needs to be
included. Red Hat has one fix, after 4.4.0. ATI fix on Radeon. Kevin will
need to check with Mike on any other problems. Egbert also has some fixes
to be included in the tree.
Jim will send out a note today on how to handle the tinderbox setup and
configuration. Did say can support multiple tinderboxes and multiple branch
building.
Howard.
