All,
The minutes of the call today:
Attendees:
Howard Greenwell
Jim Gettys
Stuart Kreitman
Alan Coopersmith
Daniel Stone
Egbert Eich
Keith Packard
Kaleb Keithley
Leon Shiman
Paul Anderson
Minutes:
Stuart working with Cygwin - Need to discuss issues with Harold.
1. Status
Egbert has added support pointers to a "non-existent wiki" - address would
be "wiki-x.org".
Wants the wiki to support a release FAQ. Needs to be a community effort.
Access policy of freedesktop wiki is probably too strict. Keith mentioned
whole sub-tree of the wiki can be given the same.
Keith acknowledged the current access policy has just about closed down the
wikis.
Daniel mentioned that too open would be too available to defacement.
Scripting the defacing can be done very rapidly.
Action: Keith will create a new wiki area on freedesktop.org and set the
new Access Policy for anyone who has an account.
Daniel mentioned Branden Robinson's wiki on Debian issues, and this should
be looked at for content suggestions.
Also has a page that points to other support organization.
Daniel will sent links to Egbert.
Action: Howard to get the DNS entry added for the wiki page on the "x.org"
domain.
Action: Howard to get "x.org" entry set up for the "www.x.org" domain.
Egbert thought there should be an update to the PCI database. Egbert thinks
Mike Harris suggest this can be done, and has the shell script to add the
headers required.
Action: Egbert to follow up with Mike on PCI database.
Trademark issues. Need to move around xfree86 in xterm - need to speak with
Thomas ?? .
Action: Daniel to speak with Thomas about moving around the xfree86
references in Xterm. Ask if the references can be made configurable.
It was noted that reference to the foundation in the software should be
"X.Org Foundation" and not the full title of "X.Org Foundation L.L.C."
Testing.
Agreed we should not announce support for any platform that we have not
done any testing on.
Action: Leon to follow up on platforms that have not already tested on.
NetBSD and OpenBSD.
Documentation:
Egbert explained that the SGML files need updating. Daniel warned about
being careful, because some licenses indicate no modification. Paul is
looking into this.
Jim suggested the need to tackle these types of issues in the future.
Daniel asked about the licenses on the fonts. Jim negotiated with Bitstream
fonts, to make sure they went through Debian legal. As time permits, Jim
would like to Bigalow fonts, and needs to call him up to discuss.
Jim planning to work on the release notes this afternoon.
Leon asked about the documentation license. Concern about Tim O'reilly
being able to take copy of the documentation and make new release. Thinks
we can do better. Jim thinks O'reilly behavoir now a lot better. Jim
unwilling to hold current behavoir against him.
Leon provided example of 2 years ago, when Tim not interest. Did not think
there was a market.
Leon asked if there was away to define what is an official version.
Jim suggested looking at the Debian guidelines, which say - if you change
this, then you have to change the name. Need to put something on the
standards related documents.
(This does not prevent people working with us, nor prevent Tim or another
taking them for commerical gain).
Paul asked Daniel about the license on the xkb documentation. Daniel
suggested looking at "ReadMe-xkb.conf". Daniel will find reference in his
mail.
Egbert thinks ReadMe's need to be re-written anyway - they are not very
comprehensive. Note should be inserted to indicate future changes will be
made.
Keith asked if we know how to split up trademark issues. Egbert indicated
he will finish the binary issues this week. Will wait on xterm until report
back from Thomas.
Paul, Jim and Keith will all work on the documents this week. Communicate
through release-wanglers list.
Egbert will look at Chipset.sgml and Neomagic.sgml - both of which Egbert
has worked on.
Paul will look through xkb files.
Talk about BugList and MAC OS issues on Wednesday.
Howard.
