[Uim] problems with uim and prime

The distribution for my pda (pdaxii13) doesn't have any up-to-date
packages for uim or prime that I could find. As a result, I have tried
to install from source. I have compiled prime and all of its
dependencies as well as uim, without errors in compilation. However, I
cannot input Japanese in any application.

Prime works for me from the console; at least, I can type "prime" and
I can interact with the program there (viewing help and trying other
commands).

Uim works to the extent that I can view and set preferences with
uim-pref-gtk. There, I have selected PRIME as the default input
method. PRIME appears in the list on the left side of that screen. It
is in the list of enabled input methods. I can launch the gtk toolbar.
However, I am unable to input Japanese in any applications. In leafpad
when I right click, the "input methods" menu only shows "default".
What's more, when I right click on the toolbar and choose "switch
input method", the list in the window which appears is completely
blank.

I have tried googling to solve this problem for weeks, but I cannot
seem to figure out where I have gone wrong.

Packages I have installed from source include:
- prime-1.0.0.1
- prime-dict-0.8.5
- ruby-progressbar-0.9
- sary-1.2.0
- sary-ruby-1.2.0
- suikyo-2.1.0
- uim-1.4.1

My distribution is pdaxii13 build 5.4.8, and it is running on a Sharp
Zaurus SL-C3200. It uses kernel 2.4.20.

I hope someone can give me some help or a pointer to more complete
documentation that what appears on the Google code site. I would be
happy to improve any existing documentation with what I learn from
this.

Best,

Renick
