As most of you already know, the feature freeze was last Friday. We
would like to thank everyone for getting all of their features checked
in on schedule.

We are now moving into the testing phase of the release, so no further
features will be allowed in the tree at this time. Bug fixes and
updates to the documentation are welcome.

At this time, we really need to get more complete testing, bug reporting
and bug fixing of the current code. For those that can build and test
the release, please do so and report any problems in the freedesktop.org
bugzilla, ideally with a patch that fixes the problem.

We would also like to get those testers that cannot build the release
themselves involved. To do so, I would like to see some volunteers
build and package the pre-release code for others to download and test.
If there is a way to automatically do nightly builds and packaging, that
would be very much appreciated.

We are tentatively calling this next release "X11R6.8" but the final
decision will need to be made by the X.Org Foundation BOD. When the
name is approved, we will announce it here. As for what to call the
pre-release packages, others have suggested that we use X11R6.7.99.x,
which is similar to what has been done in the past.

Fixing bugs should be the priority until the code freeze on 13 Aug 2004.
After that date, only critical bug fixes and documentation updates will
be allowed to be checked into the tree. Here is the URL for the release
bug:

    https://freedesktop.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=351

On this page, you will find the list of bugs that the release depends
on. These blocker bugs should be fixed first, and then the list of
other bugs filed against the "xorg" product should be investigated.
There are currently 21 blocker bugs (8 of which have already been fixed)
and a total of 183 bugs currently open against xorg in the freedesktop
bugzilla.

We would like this release to be as stable as possible, so all help
looking into and fixing these bugs is most appreciated!
