proprietary extensions (was: Locales for Indic languages)

We are doing that at Sun as we move our X servers to the new Xorg base.

(Actually, we're doing almost that - we're going through the proprietary
  stuff to see what still has enough value to be worth the effort, porting
  those that do to Xorg, and evaluating what of that we can/should release
  to the open source release.  It will take quite a while to get through
  this all, as it has to take a back seat to actually producing our products
  and fixing bugs for our customers, but it is slowly going forward.  Bug
  fixes are going to come in quicker than entire new features/extensions,
  but we're looking at both.)
