Writing Touchscreen calibration utility

Shouldn't there be a interface to the driver, where an application could 
request direct access to the hardware thru the driver? ( Without going thru 
the  x event handler )

I Originally thought this might be possible but never looked into it, Instead 
I ended up writing an elo calibration app in directFB for the Xserver, Which 
really puts a fine point on Xserver's weakness in this area, to say the 
least. 

All that is needed is for the driver to export(expose) xf86EloGetPacket() 
somehow? Touchscreen input drivers are the limit of my Xserver hacking atm.
