can't run gtk programs on Xvfb with a color depth of 16 or 24. why?

Oh really?
GTK2 just displays garbage on 30bit Truecolor and 10bit StaticGray
visuals. Where is useable dynamic palette suport? Why do GTK2
applications crash on 1bit StaticGray visuals? The list is endless...
GTK2 is really not a good X11 citizen.
