No joy, David:

sudo aptitude install read-edid
mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /var/tmp
sudo aptitude reinstall xserver-common xserver-xorg
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

No modelines in xorg.conf.

Thanks again
Paulo
