I'm assuming a user who runs make install in an xorg source tree. So
that situation would be fixed by your patch. I'll give it a try with
different module formats soon. Is your patch ready to be committed or
does it need more testing or approval by someone.

P.S.: Making snapshots that work with old and new Xservers could be fun
though. ;-) Some comments in bug #2138 gave me a rough idea.
