Does the xc/doc/hardcopy/ dir exist in the single tarball download
(ftp://ftp.x.org/pub/X11R6.8.2/src-single/X11R6.8.2-src.tar.Z) ?

No, in theory it should still work... please file a bug and I'll take a
look at the issue...
