Hello list!
I got a TV connected to my graphics cards VGA out that I'd like to use.
I have Gentoo Linux with kernel 2.6.15, Xorg 6.8.2 and a Connect3D Radeon 9250.
I soldered a cable like shown at http://ryoandr.free.fr/english.html.
It's basically a VGA-to-Scart cable. The cable is fine, it works in
Windows. In Windows I used PowerStrip to find and set a proper modeline.
Here's what PowerStrip came up with:
PowerStrip timing parameters:
768x576=768,0,56,112,576,5,11,40,14789,312
Generic timing details for 768x576:
HFP=0 HSW=56 HBP=112 kHz=16 VFP=5 VSW=11 VBP=40 Hz=25
VESA detailed timing details:
PClk=14,79 H.Active=768 H.Blank=168 H.Offset=-16 HSW=56 V.Active=576
V.Blank=56 V.Offset=5 VSW=11
Linux modeline parameters:
"768x576" 14,789 768 768 824 936 576 581 592 632 interlace +hsync +vsync
The only thing I changed was that I added 'composite' to the modeline
when I inserting in xorg.conf:
Modeline "768x576" 14.789 768 768 824 936 576 581 592 632 composite interlace +hsync +vsync
Now the Radeon card has a DVI plus a VGA out. I don't need both monitors
(TMDS + TV) to run at the same time. In fact I don't want that at all.
That's why I figured it would be ok to use the "MonitorLayout" option
with the radeon driver.
I try to start X on the TV with this script:
#!/bin/bash
X -layout "TV layout" :1 -ac & sleep 2; DISPLAY=:1 mplayer -fs -monitoraspect 768:576 "$1" && kill `ps aux | awk '/X\ -layout/ {print$2}' `
My TMDS will blank at once and sound of the movie will start playing.
But the Picture on the TV just goes black. I can't tell if it is just
blanked or if it has problems with the signal, allthough if the latter
was the case I'd assume there'd be at least garbage on the TV because
there's garbage all over it when I'm in console or using my X with the TMDS.
I hope you guys can help me because I spent hours messing around with
this with no effect.
Thank you
Sebastian
