I had a look at the source and this is what I found (radeon_driver.c):
" * MonitorLayout option ...
* This option can also be used to disable one connected display.

* Option "MonitorLayout" "NONE, CRT"

This seems like what I had in mind earlier (Monitorlayout "NONE,CRT").
But you saw that that didn't really work out. :)
