The GXT2000P was a relabelled Matrox card, no? Some years ago I fixed
the matrox driver to correctly detect the low ammount of RAM (1 or 2 MB IIRC) 
to work correctly on my RS6000 B50. Maybe try the mga driver on your box if 
you silicon is a MGA chip as well.
