debian upgrade / fatal server error: failed to initialize core devices

I'm not really sure what's going on. Can you send the output of 'ls -l
/dev/input/mice'? Also, do you have the psmouse kernel module loaded? And
is udev installed and running? That's about all I can think of off the top
of my head, but I'll look deeper in to it.
