intel 965GM integrated graphics chipset on dell d830 with fedora 7 not working correctly

hi ho,

Problems with the intel965gm integrated graphics chipset on a dell d830
laptop.  I am unable to get resolutions above 1280x800, unable to enable
compiz, compiz-fusion or beryl (on enabling any of these the desktop freezes
or turns all white and I have to kill the xserver or reboot).  I have read
about the new intel drivers that are available but I am unable to install
them due to an error indicating that XINERAMA is not available.  I would
really appreciate some assistance with this issue, potentially some detailed
direction on getting the newer intel drivers installed and working.
