Hmmm... this seems to work! Using mplayer and a 1080p movie, the video is
perfectly smooth... Thanks.
Question though; how can I make this the default for all video used?. For
example, how to configure the internal player in mythtv (not mplayer).
Also, I saw that my TV returns two EDID modes (1080i/50 1080i24)... Even
though it supports 1080p/60 and 1080p/24.
I've tried a number of xorg option to get the driver to override EDID but it
doesn't work. It keeps reverting to 50i. Currently trying PreferredMode but
no success.
I tried adding the new mode using xrandr but cannot change to it...
Great help so far, thanks!

And the result? I never used MythTV but I mean something like
mplayer -vo xv:port=89.
