Granted, but that's a little off the path I was trying to outline.
Having an architecture for nontrivial transformations is important
for things that are much less exotic than spherical texture mapping.
Ordinary scaling (of text in particular) is enough to expose most of
the challenges, while making the usefulness of the feature more obvious.
