Errors while trying to start xserver(xvesa, xnvidia, etc)

Hi again. Tried the suggestion below, without success :( Here's the
errors generated:
shroomz:/opt/fdo/bin # /opt/fdo/bin/Xvesa -mode 0x117 :1 -ac & sleep 5
&& xterm -display :1

already running

xterm Xt error: Can't open display: %s
Yes, i've checked for sockets and stuff in /tmp, netstat lsof. Nodda. ..
The last part of this error is obviously caused by the Xserver not
starting.
Could it be a problem that i'm running the 2.6 kernel(2.6.4) and
framebuffer?
