better intel i8x0 drivers someday?

Hi,
I'd first like to congratulate x.Org on their first official release!
It runs like a charm! :)
Then back to business:
I've always had a love/hate relationship with my linux/xfree laptop install
since it's based on the intel i810 do-it-all VGA etc. chipset and the screen
is 1400x1280. The bios however is not aware of this resolution and reports
1280x1024 to the driver. This is a limitation of the driver since the
official intel i8x0 documentation is not (yet) available and therefor
non-bios resolutions can't be set. A well known issue with this
chipset/driver.
David Dawes of Xfree86 was responsible for the i8x0 driver and was in no way
inclined nor able to further investigate on this due to lack of time,
hardware AND documentation.
Is anybody in the x.Org group willing/able to pick up on this?
I'm not a hardware programmer, but am willing to beta test any efforts where
possible!
Keep up the good works!
Grtz,
Martin
