[compiz] core.xml and compiz.xml

For me, the core metadata is named core.xml.in and becomes core.xml
during build & installation. The core schema file is named
compiz-core.schemas.
Maybe the compiz.xml in your installation is a leftover - compiz.xml was
renamed to core.xml just recently.
