some weeks ago, i've posted a mail to this list, asking if somebody knew, who is behind libregraphics.org.

i've not found out more, than i knew by then, but now, i'm willing to act and try to make some use of that domain name.

== the status quo ==

actually, libregraphics.org seems to be a very well done "scam": if you look at the page you find a rss-feed from inkscape, a bunch of links to the the main libre graphics projects on the top and -- and this is the most important part -- some google ads.

i've tried to look for the owner:

* nobody here seems to know, who is behind libregraphics.org;
* nobody on #inkscape at irc.freenode.net knew it either;
* the whois for the domain is not filled with the owner's name and address;
* i wrote a comment on the libregraphics.org's "blog" but got no answer;
* i wrote a mail to admin at libregraphics.org: it didn't come back but i didn't get an answer, either.

== my goal ==

i'm part of the scribus community and i'm actively promoting the libre
graphics programs in switzerland.

while consulting people who wants to use free graphics software
professionally, i noticed that there is a need to look at the different
programs as a suite (i've already heard of that word somewhere...) or,
even better, as a work-flow.

i could set up my own consulting site, but i think that there is a
broader interest for a platform that summarizes, how (or "how well")
each task of a graphist's work-flow can be fulfilled with free
resources (software, fonts, color profiles, ...): libregraphics.org is
the best url i can think of!

i love the spirit of LGM and i'd like to create a platform sharing the same ideas but living for the whole year!

the new site:

* would contain detailed descriptions of the projects and links to them (it should not duplicate the content which is already on the project's site).
* should not provide any kind of direct support (only links to the resources available for each project).
* would be a platform for activities related to libre graphics
(teaching, booths at expos, workshops, ...).
* it's not meant to replace libregraphicsmeeting.org (not now at
least!) (though in the future there could be a
"libregraphics.org/meeting" alias).

== my question to you ==

my question to the people on the create list is (and in general to the member of the teams concerned):

would you support such an effort or do you think that it's useless?

if you wish to support me, the other question is: the domain is
registered at 1and1.com. has anybody already tried to get a domain
which is just "parked" and used for google ads? any hints?

the domain expires end of april, so i think that -- if we want to do something -- now it's the right time.

have fun
