Can you go ahead and make the "1.0" changes in CVS (set the version number, update NEWS, be sure distcheck works, make all intended patches, etc.) - then people can double-check everything over the next 24 hours. i.e. if we could say the next 24 hours will be a 100% freeze with no changes of any kind...
