screenshot of distorted video playback

Hi there,

I have a couple of videos in AVI format encoded with DivX Version 5. All these
videos play back heavily distorted with gstreamer-based applications like Totem
ot gst-play, but play back fine with VLC. Please see the attached screenshot
for an example.

I have created a short video sample here:
http://greffrath.com/~fabian/test.avi

Please note that this sample plays back fine with VLC from the beginning to the
end, although it complains that the AVI file index is broken or missing.
Whatever that means, I chose to "play as is" and it works. The index is most
probably broken, because the sample is just a dd'ed snippet of a complete DVD
rip, but the video distortion accurs identically with the whole original file.

A strange fact worth noting is that the video quality can be drastically
improved (even back to "normal") by wildly seeking from one point in time to
the other in the video. For example, if you seek to the scene on the cemetery
and then back to the scene in the cab back and forth some times, the video will
be solid from the netx i-frame on, e.g. when the man leaves the cab.

Hope that helps, please don't hesitate to ask if yo uneed further information
or longer samples.

Cheers,

Fabian
