Hi - thanks for the patch - I appreciate it.

Now, before I apply this patch to HEAD, I want to make sure that it
passes the following checklist:

 o  Apart from 'make check' passing (which should catch most bugs
    related to IPC), does hald work as before; e.g. updating the
    device list, sending out notifications? You can test this by
    plugging/unplugging a few devices.

 o  In particular, does h-d-m work? I don't see a patch against that - 
    aren't the Python bindings in D-BUS changed as well? It's really
    important that h-d-m works, otherwise it makes hal development
    really difficult.

 o  I'm not sure there is a official D-BUS 0.30 release yet (haven't
    seen on the dbus at fd.o mailinglist) - there should probably be
    one, yeah?

I'll try to stay out of hald/hald_dbus.[ch] and libhal/libhal.[ch] until
all this is resolved.
