Come on, Stuart... the overwhelming majority of users of office suites have not
read the manual for decades, and will not read the manual in the future. And
nobody "insists" that they do this.

First let's make the distinction between "requires documentation to use" and
"self-documenting"; but ignoring that, it's certainly true that:

* A lot of functional software requires reading documentation in order to use.
* Non-requiring-documentation-to-use is indeed not part of the _nature_ of
functional software.

still, a decent office suite like LO doesn't require documentation to use. Not
because this non-requirement is in the "nature" of an office suite, but because
if it required reading a manual it would be a poor office suite. Which LO
isn't.

Help and manuals are useful for many users, for sure. But the UI must not rely
on them being read. They are at most a "secondary line of defense" to partially
borrow from Telesto's phrasing.

> We can only do so much with UI hints and reasonable UX considerations--

We can do enough :-)

and that is the case here. Yes, there is some functionality is
super-complicated and can't be fully related to the user intuitively. But
that's really very little - especially in Impress/Draw.
