We discussed the topic in the design meeting.

If the template background is set to Automatic (no image, no shape, no special
color) it takes what is defined in Tools > Options > Application Colors >
Document Background. And switching from Light to Dark theme adjusts all
automatic colors (and System Theme should follow the OS theming). Works well
with the Default template as well as many other.

If the template has a special background, let's say the Grey Elegant, the
colors are chosen deliberately. Providing more templates (and even master
slides) makes no sense.
