There were a few topics around this topic, [1] for example, and Marek Olšák's
floating2 branch [2], but information is scattered all around the maillists,
irc meeting logs and so on. It was also rumored that LF and OIN may also
participate in finding out the solution for the patenting problems.

I suggest creating a tracker-bug to prevent any interested man from googling
too much or bothering everyone at the irc channel with question "So what was a
result?".

P.S. As possible workaround, why not just to keep this into current way, i.e.
in separate branch, but into main mesa/mesa git repository, so all interested
driver-developers could participate? Until a better solution will be found (not
a quick deal, I presume), of course. This way floating support will be tested
on various hardware by those who want to try it and maintaining of this branch
will not fall on single man.
