Yes, I do not like this approach as well. I personally uninstall the older 
packages using the command:

	rpm -e `rpm -qa | grep -e openoffice -e ooo`
        rm -rf /opt/openoffice.org*

It is the tag Obsolete. We are looking for a volunteer who would maintain this 
for each new release ;-)

The problem is that the Go-oo build is supposed to work on many systems => it 
must be built on a relatively old system. We use CentOS 4 for this purpose. 
It would need quite some work to build KDE4 stuff on this old system. Any 
volunteer is welcome.
