For this point I'd mainly take over mentoring, to get the person up to a 
running environment, start in Oyranos. Your task would be to discuss or 
püerhaps more explain a strategy, outline technical possibilities and help 
in pointing to the right API's and examples. Syncing up with other device 
categories can happen here on this list. I'd very roughly guess 2-3 x one 
week half to one hour per work day.

The student associated mentor will need regulary time how much is 
dependent from the person she/he is guiding.

The above suggestions help building some components to let colour 
management work for Gutenprint on a open source base. Probably after this 
or in parallel you might start to talk with Mike and Till about closer 
integration into the print path.

A tutorial on how to embedd ICC profiles into a PPD could be a good 
start, if not yet available for instance in the CUPS documentation.
