white tty's with splash screen

Hey all,
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 on a Geode LX 800 processor. I have the 
ubuntu-logo graphical splash working before loading up GDM. The only way 
I can get the graphical splash to come up is if i specify vga=791 or 
vga=792 in the kernel options...but when I do this, all I get is a blank 
white screen for my tty's [1-6]. Any Ideas?
