Comment:

 Affects me, too.

This perhaps happens when another application accesses Alsa devices
 directly (skype in my case).

Pulseaudio running with debug-level=4 gives nothing I'm afraid, only
 restart notice after crash:

 Jan 17 03:35:12 nordsee pulseaudio[10083]: alsa-source.c: Overrun!
 Jan 17 03:35:12 nordsee pulseaudio[10083]: alsa-source.c: Increasing
 wakeup watermark to 40,00 ms
 Jan 17 03:41:26 nordsee pulseaudio[11162]: pid.c: Stale PID file,
 overwriting.
Jan 17 03:41:27 nordsee pulseaudio[11162]: alsa-sink.c: ALSA woke us up to
write new data to the device, but there was actually nothing to write!
 Jan 17 03:41:27 nordsee pulseaudio[11162]: alsa-sink.c: Most likely this
is a bug in the ALSA driver 'snd_emu10k1'. Please report this issue to the
 ALSA developers.
Jan 17 03:41:27 nordsee pulseaudio[11162]: alsa-sink.c: We were woken up
with POLLOUT set -- however a subsequent snd_pcm_avail() returned 0 or
 another value < min_avail.
 Jan 17 03:41:30 nordsee pulseaudio[11179]: pid.c: Daemon already running.
 Jan 17 03:41:30 nordsee pulseaudio[11180]: pid.c: Daemon already running.
 Jan 17 03:41:30 nordsee pulseaudio[11181]: pid.c: Daemon already running.

If you tell me how, I will try to give more info (install debugging
 symbols?, create a backtrace?).

 Cheers,
 Sven
