Comment:

 As Rhythmbox uses GStreamer it would be interesting to see if you can
 reproduce this with non-gstreamer apps, e.g. mplayer and/or if you can
 demonstrate this problem with gst-launch on the command line.

 It could also be related to the "Fighting Rewinds" work that is recently
 been going on - this is to do with both GST and PA, and it's been
 primarily worked on by David Henningsson who is an Ubuntu guy. You can
 find his PPA on his page here: https://launchpad.net/~diwic (look for the
 "Fighting PulseAudio Rewinds" link). You might find some luck with those
 updated packages.
