can you lock a cvs branch?

i.e. prevent future checkouts in order to clearly indicate that the branch 
has served its purpose and is no longer useful to work in.

I ask this because I find myself owning many branches and tags:
XEVIE, XEVIE-BASE
DAMAGE-XFIXES, -BASE

and possibly others.  The intention is to fold these into HEAD once they're
well on the way to arch approval.
