Transparency

Hi there!
With the compositing manager (xcompmgr) of xserver, it is possible to create 
transparent windows and whatnot. This is great (should anyone be in 
doubt ;-).
But I wonder: Everybody's favourite transparent apps of all times, the 
transparent console windows, will it be possible to get true transparency 
with xserver without changing the opacity of the whole window?
Transparent window backgrounds can be somewhat annoying if the text on them is 
equally transparent, not to mention the window decorations.

What I'm basically asking: Is it possible, with xcompmgr, to have different 
"layers" within the same window with different opacities? I suppose this 
would require some changes to the toolkits of the windows, or what?
