Hmm, nmap is probably not the best tool to check whether UDP ports
are accesible.
Please make sure that you don't have any firewall configured, with
"iptables -L -n".
Apparently UDP communication on port 5353 doesn't work on your
machine. Please try "tcpdump -i eth0 -n udp port 5353" and then run
"avahi-resolve-host-name yourhost.local" at the same time. Then,
tcpdump should show you two packets: the question and the
reply. Something like this:
