Try this in a file under /etc/avahi/services/

<!DOCTYPE service-group SYSTEM "avahi-service.dtd">
<service-group>
   <name>Some Service</name>
   <service>
     <type>_test._tcp</type>
     <port>11000</port>
   </service>
</service-group>
