Just a quick note that a couple years ago I asked Wener Lemberg to add refcounting to main FreeType objects and he did. So, may be about time to start using them. I know we did have lifecycle-management problems in cairo with respect to FT_Face. Not sure we can address those without API semantic changes though. Cheers, behdad
