Just curious, why are these patches needed with the dumb framebuffer?

I am also running Cairo on DRM, but just using the image surface to draw to
the DRM buffer.

As long as you don't use any hardware acceleration (which would be driver
specific), doesn't Cairo already provide everything you need ?
