[compiz] technical low-end possibilities of xgl?

Hello. I know this is off topic but sorry I cannot google out where xgl
people discuss things (don't find an xgl mailing list) nor documents
about this.

Currently xgl supports modern ATI/Nvidia cards, is there any reason why
older cards are not supported? Is it because old cards are not powerful
enough, or is it because xgl is using some new 3D technologies? (OpenGL
2.0?)

How about cards like Matrox G450 that supports limited 3D feature?
3dfx's voodoo cards? (When I first know voodoo cards I have the
impression it failed on the market largely because hardware T&L feature
is missing, which I am afraid is not a necessary feature for something
like xgl). Is there a hope or plan that these old 3D cards will be
supported some day?
